Rhon-a-logue: Leave no book unfinished.

A faithful list of all the books I read (starting in January, 2005). Starting October 2007, also includes reviews and opinions from the sister who started it all with her attempt at Christmas 2004 to recall all the books she had read that year. Now you can find out exactly what we think about everything we read.

Monday Mourning

Monday Mourning - Kathy Reichs

One thing really nagged at me, detail wise: does captivity alter height? I felt like that plot point was never explained, and I'm not a forensic anthropologist, so I sure can't figure it out on my own. Reading these books does make me want to start watching Bones (TV series based on the lead character when she was just starting her career). Hubby and I are planning to watch when we're home on mat leave/parental leave together in the fall. This brought me to 12 for the month, and 92 for the year. So, 17 more books than I read in 2006. Not bad.

Grave Secrets - Kathy Reichs

I believe the moral of this story was, "don't travel to Guatemala". Easy read and decent mystery.

Live What You Love - Notes from an Unusual Life - Bob and Melinda Blanchard

This couple moved to the Caribbean and opened a restaurant, and get regularly invited on the morning talk show circuit because they are so inspiring. No doubt, their life is more interesting than this book.

T is for Trespass

T is for Trespass - Sue Grafton

Another awesome Kinsey Millhone mystery, again written from multiple points of view (Grafton's new m.o.?). Before I read it, I'd read a review in Entertainment Weekly that talked about a scene between an elderly man and his freaky homecare worker that took place on the floral couch, and once read, you'd wish you could forget. I mentioned that to my mom, who gave me the book, but she focussed on the lack of obscene details and said it wasn't so bad. EW was right - it was the saddest, most depressing thing and I did wish I could unread it.

A Little Fruitcake - A Childhood in Holidays

A Little Fruitcake - A Childhood in Holidays - David Valdes Greenwood

This was an ARC from Da Capo (not a publisher I had ever heard of). The premise was to have the memoir focus only on Christmases (and thankfully, not every Christmas). It was very uneven, but the last story was a real tearjerker. I'd recommend it to people who can't get enough memoirs, or people who are obsessed by the holidays.

Yours, Faithfully

Yours, Faithfully - Sheila O'Flanagan

This was okay - a bigamist's two wives meet when he's in a freak accident that puts him in a coma. There was nothing really to like or dislike about it.
