For Those About to Rock - Dave Bidini

Easy read, how-to book for kids/adolescents who want to be in a band. Author is a member of the Rheostatics, a great Canadian indie band that still gets some airplay on my radio station. When I used to work at Canada's Wonderland, a couple of the other supervisors were total Rheostatics fans. Those memories may have been more enjoyable than the book, but bear in mind, I can't even play the recorder, so I am pretty far from the target audience.

Girl with some sort of psychic powers and amnesia tries to figure out who she is and who to trust. First in a series. Good for tween and teen conspiracy theorists. Also, recalculates my October total to 3, and my YTD to 72.

Losing Forever

Losing Forever - Gayle Friesen

This was the novel that came before "For Now", which I loved. This one was good, but I think I liked the sequel better. Still, I'd highly recommend to teens and adults alike. Plan to pass this one on to my sister when I see her at Christmas. Only 2 books this month, bringing me to 71 YTD.

More Than Friends

More Than Friends - N.J. Lindquist

Christian teen serial, free from Book Expo. It was pretty good (reminiscent of the movie Saved! in some aspects, but not nearly as snarky or funny). Very sincere. I passed it on to my baby sister - the hubby says she declined it a year ago, but maybe this time she'll read it. I picture this being popular among the home-schooling set.

For Now

For Now - Gayle Friesen

This was an ARC from Kids' Can Press. Despite the hubby's vexations with their rep at Book Expo (snatched a book out of his hands at a signing), this book rocked! Blended families, dealing with death, liking boys, this book had it all and handled it sensitively. Now I'm looking for the preceding book, Losing Forever, because I bet it was excellent too.

Passed this on to my sister, who also loved it.

The Luxe - Anna Godbersen

This one was a Harper Teen ARC. Must thank the rep! It was teased as 19th century gossip girls, and that about summed it up. The plot resolution was very simple, but still satisfying. I did wonder what happened to Lina? Passed this on to the baby sister - not sure she ever read it.

A is for Angst - Barbara Haworth

This was another Harper Collins advance reading copy. I really need to email their rep a thank you for all the books! Very funny, high school era read. I saw the author give a reading, and she was hilarious live. Recommended for all the teenage girls (or nostalgic women) in your life.
