Confessor - Terry Goodkind

This was the last one in the Sword of Truth series - a bit sad (but at least there's closure, unlike the Wheel of Time now that Robert Jordan died before finishing the series). I digress. Wrapped up most plot points to my satisfaction, and happily, the goat had a cameo (along with almost every other major character from the previous 10 installments). This was a series I started right before I got married, and one of the few that the hubby and I both read. The hubby's not a huge fantasy fan, but he enjoyed it, so I have to believe the series has some broad appeal as long as you have an open mind (and don't mind hefting thick volumes). Brought me to 8 books for the month of November, and 80 books YTD.

The Fourth Bear

The Fourth Bear - Jasper Fforde

This was the second in the Nursery Crimes series, which I don't love nearly so much as the Thursday Next series. Still, a good read, with a passable mystery, enough nursery rhyme verite to make it amusing, and a truly marvelous playfulness with language. I'll be lending this to my sister. The hubby gave it to me as part of my anniversary present - that's why he's a keeper!

First Among Sequels

First Among Sequels - Jasper Fforde

I've missed you, Thursday Next. Welcome back! The hubby gave me this as an anniversary present, which was very appreciated. Especially since he hid all the book reviews in Entertainment Weekly until after he gave me the gift! Passed it on to my sister, but expect it back in pristine condition. August was a slow reading month (I blame Gabaldon), only 3 books, bringing me to 64 YTD.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling

Excellent, excellent, excellent. A satisfying conclusion for an excellent series. She obviously learned from C.S. Lewis (Narnia) and J.R.R. Tolkein (LOTR) when it comes to ending a series realistically.

You've probably already read a ton of debate about the epilogue, but I liked it. And as the hubby astutely pointed out, it leaves the door open for Harry Potter: The Next Generation. I did find the death of Harry loophole a bit machina ex deus for my taste, but it worked. Can't wait for the kid to be old enough to start reading this series! This was my 12th book for the month, bringing me to 61 YTD.
